In March 2021, through JFS’ Circle of Welcome, which was established by the resettlement agency Lutheran Services Carolina, a family from Afghanistan has accomplished a significant number of goals on the road to financial self-sufficiency. Volunteers provided language lessons, household items, transportation, registration for school and services, medical case management, job support, and more.

Since August 2022, fourteen Jewish Ukrainian refugees (including three generations of family members) arrived in Charleston. JFS has assisted this family with travel, housing, utilities, and other immediate essentials.

Both refugee families have faced and continue to face much trauma from their experiences. Out of respect for their well-being, we cannot reveal too much in the way of family details and photos. We are humbled by the needs of and honored by the opportunity to help the refugee families from Afghanistan and Ukraine.
